""A Girl From Texas" is the riveting true story of Ruth Conerly who from poverty became one of America’s most successful commercial artists. Illustrated with a treasure house of Conerly art memorabilia – WWII war posters, high fashion, Christmas art distributed to 5000 newspapers around the world, Death of Alamo Commander Travis – it traces great moments in advertising history, interwoven with Conerly’s heart-stirring struggle to the top echelons of commercial art. A Haunt of Memories by Nadene Lynch Miller. 22 Kenfield Circle, Bloomington, IL 61704. rosesindecemberpress@hotmail.com.
"Dear Reader,
Last year I wrote and self-published, as Roses in December Press (are you familiar with J.M. Barries quote God gave us memory so that we might have roses in December?), an autobiography, A Haunt of Memories; I planned only on supplying copies to my relatives, friends, and acquaintances, so I had a minimum number of 200 printed.
However, most of my readers, some of whom have advanced degrees, have stoutly maintained that I should try to bring it to national attention.
My story truly spans the 20th Century: born in 1925 in Saskatchewan, to U.S.A. at age three, living the rest of my life in central Illinois; it is (as I proclaimed it in the flyer that I circulated announcing publication), a tale earthy and lyrical; factual and imaginative; humorous and heart-rendinga life unremarkable/extraordinary (as all lives are). It is a recounting which reaches tangentially back to 1752 with the birth of my earliest documented ancestor, and projects into the future to the year 2053 with a chatty, newsy, mythical letter to a great-great granddaughter whose name I will never knowthus my story wraps around my family for three hundred years.
This memoir is my effort at graspingat knowing, if it can be known, why it was as it was. It is a looking back at a long life, lived fully (working in a war plant during the War, two failed marriages, an emotional crackup, four children), and to a Nowthoughtfully and intensely scrutinized, a taking-stock of my present beingand at where I may be going from here, sounding the depth of my faith, that bright sustenance, inviting my soul. There are thoughtful essays on memories, family relationships, regrets, faith, aging, gardening, nature and the landscape of the Midwest.
Quote from the back cover of my book:
Its been a long, long, and meandering road from the prairie of Saskatchewan, Canada, to my little gray house in Bloomington, on the prairie of central Illinois, U.S.A. Its taken me seventy-eight years to travel its length. Along the way there have been potholes and detours aplentyeven a few washoutsbut also: oases of lush and leafy greennesslovely, lovely sites. And only the old cliché will do: I wouldnt have missed it for the world. Quote ends here.
I would be happy to send any interested person a copy of the flyer, which has pictures of me as an eighteen-month-old in Saskatchewan, of me now, the summary from which I quoted above, and a copy of the Table of Contents. My books runs to almost 400 pages; my computer puts it at about 120,000 words. It includes poems that were published and others; a prize-winning short story and other writing for which I received accolades. My readers have said that it reads like a novel; they cant put it down; it is excellently written (credentials: I am a former English teacher with an almost M.A. in English and a lifelong avid reader).
Sincerely,
Nadene Lynch Miller

"The youngest child in a London family with siblings who were musicians and actors, Our home was open to out of work actors who stayed until their next show. Our family had a secret. Mother suffered from post-partum depression and she often "went away," and became a zombie who looked at us without recognition. Our large extended family members were also unconventional beings. We laughed, sang, danced and life was good until the shadow of war loomed ahead. I wouldn't exchange my childhood for any other. "

United Press considered Ann Stringer its star reporter. "She was tough," Walter Cronkite recalls. "She knew what she wanted, and she knew how to get it. Bearing Witness: Not So Crazy in Alabama by Carla Thompson. 872 Pacific Street, Brooklyn, NY 11238. cwrite@earthlink.net. www.cwritesabook.com
"From Booklist
Disappointed by her efforts to launch a writing career in L.A., Thompson accepted her mother's invitation to return to the family's roots in Montgomery, Alabama. Expecting to find small-town boredom and backward southern folk, Thompson settles into teaching at local colleges where she figures the locals will be dazzled with her experiences in New York and L.A. She finds "an uneasy mixture of civil rights and Confederate landmarks," but she also finds a rich assortment of people who have as much to teach her as she thinks she has to teach them. She is wry and witty in her observations about the entanglements of family politics and color differences among black folks, as well as her self-realizations. An avowed conservative Republican, Thompson offers a fresh perspective on race and class in a changing American South. Vanessa Bush

Beyond my Control - One Man's Struggle with Epilepsy, Seizure Surgery & Beyond by Stuart Ross McCallum. Website. srossmac7@aol.com. http://www.beyondmycontrol.net
"My book titled: Beyond my control is the true story of my life, beginning with my battle trying to beat the eating disease—anorexia nervosa. While trying to break the vicious cycle I was in another condition suddenly entered my life—epilepsy. I was seventeen at the time.
I describe my twenty year journey of living with epilepsy and how the unpredictable disease has not only impacted my life but the lives of everyone close to me.
The next fifteen years I operated my stained glass business and managed staff while battling an ever-increasing number of seizures. As my condition deteriorated and my post seizure responses became more intense, I was often prone to violent outbursts that threatened not only my safety, but the safety of anyone unfortunate to be close by!
I was offered seizure surgery which, (if successful) would provide freedom from a life on instability, danger, and stares from strangers. Beyond my Control provides an honest, emotional look into a highly complex and often misunderstood condition. With perseverance helped me break through the darkness and find hope on the other side.

Beyond the Cold: An American's Warm Portrait of Norway by Michael Kleiner. http://www.buybooksontheweb.com/description.asp?ISBN=0-7414-2854-7. pr@beyondthecold.com. http://www.beyondthecold.com
" Beyond the Cold: An American’s Warm Portrait of Norway shows how a year spent in Norway as a child has impacted me throughout my life. The book takes the reader on an interesting and unique journey from living in Norway as an 11-year old with my family to returning for the first time 16 years later as an adult through five more visits. Writing in a journal style with warmth, sensitivity, humor, caring, and insight, I show how I developed a strong affinity, appreciation and passion for Norway, its culture, beauty and people, although I am not of Norwegian descent. As the journey progresses, it moves beyond just the wonderful reunions with friends and descriptions of my travels around the country, to making commentary on Norwegian and American societies. I discovered a second home and family in Norway. These childhood and adult reflections make the book different than usual travel/autobiography essay type books which are written only from adult perspectives.

Bobo's Daughter by Bonie Ann Barnett. Post Office Box 1009, Creedmoor, NC 27522. heart-tales@bobosdaughter.com. www.bobosdaughter.com
"Bobo's Daughter is an autobiographical memoir about searching for my earthly father the famous circus clown Bobo Barnett and finding my Heavenly Father, as well.
I am the daughter of two famous circus clowns from the 30s and 40s. Mom became the first girl clown in the circus and later on Dad had a feature act of coming into the center ring inside a small car. He was on Ed Sullivan several times and performed all over the world, but didn't know his daughter. I was raised by my single mother in a town where I needed to hide my flamboyant family history until . . . my prayers were answered with drama lights and music. Forced to walk a road of difficult discovery and heart-wrenching healing, I almost gave in to despair . . . but there were real live MIRACLES along the way. Optioned for a television movie, reading Bobo's Daughter will warm your heart.
When you look on my website (www.bobosdaughter.com)you will see a little girl in a yellow dress kissing a tramp clown. It is the first moment I remember meeting my father at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles. Someone snapped a picture and it was on the cover of the newspaper the next day. Years later when I found Dad, I commissioned Ro Kim, a brilliant artist, to bring this tattered newspaper picture back to life as a painting for my father's 80th birthday. It says so much.
There are 1000 copies in print.
"I have worked with hundreds of memoirists and from each I learn something, but no life story has taught me more about how to heal yourself through love than Bonnie Ann Barnett's. Her father was literally a clown, and as clumsy at fatherhood as they come. If she could do the work of making a relationship with her parent, any of us may find a way."

Brer Rabbit, Uncle Remus, and the 'Cornfield Journalist': The Tale of Joel Chandler Harris by Walter Brasch. www.mupress.org. wbrasch@planetx.bloomu.edu. http://facstaff.bloomu.edu/brasch
" In an entertaining and thorough sociohistorical biography, Walter M. Brasch examines the life of one of the most influential and popular American writers of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Although Joel Chandler Harris (1846?-1908) was widely praised by his contemporaries, respected as the most popular writer behind Mark Twain, and his work has been translated into more than 30 languages, he is largely unknown today.
Brasch looks at the nature of fame, and threads innumerable social and political issues throughout this important and enlightening study of a Southern writer, whom he characterizes as "a web of contradictions," among them his belief in segregation while also speaking out as one of the nation's more liberal voices for racial equality and human rights. The book explores Harris's four-decade newspaper career, which remained a key part of his life and character even after he achieved critical and financial success in the literary field.
This book is essential reading for anyone interested in social history and contemporary social issues, journalism, literature, popular culture, folklore, linguistics, or Harris himself.

"When I was 18, I looked like I was 13. I was socially immature, a late bloomer in body and mind and very much adamant that the time had come to move out of my parents home in Ontario Canada. So, I couldn't really fault the people who knew me well and believed that within a short period of time I would be sent home from military boot camp. Ah yes—boot camp! Joining the army had actually been my dad's idea. I never would have thought of it myself.

Christmas Memoirs: A Family Treasury by Lisa Ann Bargeman. 1931 E. Libra Dr.,Tempe, AZ 85283. information@3mpub.com. www.3mpub.com/bargeman/christmas.html
"From the Midwest Book Review-rated 5-star author, Lisa Ann Bargeman, comes a delightful look at Christmases throughout history in the words of the people who lived them. A collection of vignettes about the pleasantries of Christmas in varying eras, Christmas Memoirs: A Family Treasury is based on the true story of one family. It is a nice Christmas gift or stroll down "Memory Lane," designed to enrich your holiday season or that of someone you love. While focused on Christmas, the book is non-denominational in nature, with plenty of yuletide appeal.

Curiosity's Destinations: Tales & Insights from the Life of a Geologist by Don McIvor. 8391 Beverly Boulevard, PMB 110, Los Angeles, CA 90048. grindstonepress@gmail.com. www.grindstonepress.com
"Don McIvor was born 76 years ago in Winnipeg, Manitoba. From his beloved Canadian prairie, McIvor began a career that would see him traverse the world in search of oil and of personal growth and fulfillment. He came from a Scottish tradition stressing literacy and education. This tradition combined with a strong sense of curiosity fueled him to know more about the world around him. “Donny Why,” his childhood nickname, was driven at a young age to know how water turns to ice, or how geometric forms can be represented by algebraic equations.
McIvor was averse to leading an ordinary life, so he sought and found adventure and ful-fillment in a technological and business career spanning the globe. Starting as an entry-level earth scientist for Imperial Oil Limited, Canada’s second largest corporation, he rose through the ranks to become CEO of that company, and later to be director and senior vice president of Imperial’s parent, Exxon Corporation (now ExxonMobil), the world’s largest and most success-ful publicly owned oil company.
A forty-three year career with one company has become a rarity, but McIvor found enjoyment and opportunity for growth in it. He uses this experience and his keen observation to describe the world he found, a world that has been forever changed. Since retirement, Don has kept his intellect sharpened and active with exploration in academia, foreign aid, consulting, and now his first book, a natural extension of his writing op ed columns for his local Connecticut newspaper.

Dad Was A Carpenter by Kenny Kemp. Box 71395. kenny@alta-films.com. www.alta-films.com
"This is my second update. Since publishing the book in 1999, I've sold over 20,000 copies. The book won the Grand Prize in the 1999 Writer's Digest National Self-Published Book Awards and within 48 hours of the announcement, I was deluged by A-List agents -- people I could never previously even get to return my phone calls. I chose the most tenacious agent, and within a week he had secured a reprint deal for DWAC with HarperCollins Publishers, with a six-figure advance. The book was re-released this last May (2001) with an initial printing of 50,000 and has been doing well. Harper was very impressed with my understanding of the publishing t rade, and for this I have Dan Poynter to thank: he has been instrumental in getting me up to speed so I can now sit in marketing meetings with Harper executives and contribute good, solid ideas that work. The best part is that now we have a real budget to work with. Harper has been so pleased with the success of DWAC that they just signed me to a three-book deal with a mid six-figure advance! Dreams really do come true. Dream the most outrageous thing you can, but when it comes to making it happen, put on your "Realism Hat" and know how the nuts and bolts fit together. Only then does your dream have a chance of success. Thanks, Dan, for everything! I invite you to call me to discuss your project. I know how hard it is to get information and would be glad to spend a few minutes with you talking about ways to make your dreams come true!"

"When Kenny Kemp raised his father's garage door four months after his father's death, he intended to simply clean out the place. "Ibrahim came to the U.S., from Nigeria, on August 29, 2000 to pursue higher learning. He perceived America as a place where he could seek greener pastures and acquire opportunities that his home country could not have offered him at the time. Everyday became a bitter struggle as he had to chillingly accept the realization of instant independence, and the culture shock being away from the surroundings of his familiar homeland and family."

Doctors: Bound by Secrecy? Victims: Bound by Pain! by Karen Steward. kann@charter.net. www.karensteward.typepad.com
"Print date: February, 2007.
Doctors: Bound by Secrecy? Victims" Bound by Pain! is author Karen Stward's account of her daughter Melissa's 14-year battle with ARD - Adhesion Related Disorder.
This is a book about a mother and a daughter's fearless battle against impossible odds, and their final triumph over an agonizing hidden illness. This book aims to expose the truth about ADHESHIONS with the hope that those who are ill will no longer have to suffer. (Surgical photos which reveal adhesions are included in the book).
In telling Melissa's story a story that belongs to thousands of other victims of ARD, this book describes:
the true story of a young girl who suffered because doctors misdiagnosed and incorrectly treated an illness they either did not recognize, or refused to acknowledge. The conditions and pain that ARD sufferers endure physically and socially. The diagnoses and treatments commonly prescribed for ARD-sufferers, because Melissa endured them all. The attidutes of society and the medical profession towards ARD, which is aggravated becuase standard medical tests do not detect the disorder! Melissa's heartrending story, with a sense of humor and wit, despite the trauma, agony and frustration.
This book inspires the reader to continue to seek help, even when numerous doctors insist: "You must live with the pain." The book challenges the reader to trust their own intuitive mind.
Above all, this book serves as a voice for all people who suffer from adhesions. The book was written to inspire, educate and provide hope, along with shattering the silence that surrounds Adhesion Related Disorder."

Paris, Kentucky— Finally, a book that describes what being a Kentucky veterinarian is all about. Dr. Max: Adventures of a Kentucky Vet discloses true vet cases that are not all warm and fuzzy. Although Dr. Max has had his share of cozy, satisfying moments, he learns quickly that ugly, stark reality often dominates his calls.
Born a Yankee, but uprooted as a young boy to Kentucky, Maxwell Harding and his kooky family learn quickly and embarrassingly the ways of the South. Never completely satisfied by life’s ordinary occurrences, Dr. Max searches for new and exciting adventures, whether they are inventive enterprises or travels to the dark Amazon Forest of Bolivia.

""Emigrating Home" is a coming-of-age story sparked by the author's discovering shortly before the 1956 Suez Crisis that, with an Egyptian father and through birth in a British colony, he was a dual British/Egyptian national. This made him liable for military service in the armies of both countries. He was at school in Britain at the time and Britain was in military occupation of Egypt. Shortly after the Suez Crisis, he went to visit his father and step-family in Cairo and stayed on. He felt accepted there despite knowing little about Egypt, almost no Arabic, and, as a result, finding himself often in awkward situations.

"Flashbacks by RL Goodson. 290 Sayles Road. Duck Hill, MS 38925 mfondren@ayrix.net 1-662-226-5909
After 50 years of silence R L Goodson decided it was time to share a portion of his experiences from World War II with his family and friends. The stories soon led to a book that describes "a period in my life that won't go away". The 95 page book is filled with true, graphic, detailed accounts of battle, fatigue, sickness, and even insanity. You can actually feel the fear that Goodson and his fellow soldiers dealt with on a daily basis, but there are humourous events included as well. Goodson states, "What I am telling is only a tip of the iceberg. This war goes on day and night." The experiences Goodson tells about in Flashbacks will be all his family will ever know because he says, "I cannot bear to tell the rest, the memories are just too painful."
You'll be amazed at how Flashbacks is historically informative, strikingly emotional, yet, so captivating you simply cannot close the book until you reach the last page.

Written in an easy-to-read style and format, this book is being described over and over as "absolutely wonderful." It is a unique collection of personal essays that examine a woman's life in her role as mother, wife, friend, teacher, spiritual philosopher, and creative. It centers around the writer's experiences and relationships in a way that will lift your spirits, and help you acknowledge what life is truly about. "

"This is the second in a four part series telling Jim's story of hoods, rough streets, and his escape from this environment through gymnastics and eventually the circus. The characters he had to contend with and the obstacles that continually popped up all create an atmosphere of doom, yet this young man persevered through it all with a determination unequaled by most, eventually finding a mentor who would believe in him. It reads like a novel, but is the true account of his struggle to reach his goal; a performing acrobat in a professional circus."

I Heard My People Cry, One Family's Escape From Russia by Elizabeth Lenci-Downs. PO Box 19206, Fountain Hills, AZ 85269 US / Trafford Publishers, Canada / Use Website to order USA & for Media Kit :. LD2AZ@aol.com. www.lencistudios.com
" NEW RELEASE--2nd printing. June 2003. Co-published Lenci Studios, Inc. with TRAFFORD Publishing. Outstanding Foreword by Nancy K. Splain, Am. Bar Asso. Laison to Far Eastern Project - Ukraine.
Written as a narrative, this is a true story of this period in history that tells it like it was -- ignoring myth and propaganda used to cover up what really happened to Lise and her family -- thousands in Ukraine and Crimea under Stalin. It is full of the life of the times, the inescapable resolution to survive and a passion for freedom. It is told entirely through the lives and actions of the people of Tchongraw, Crimea, and Lise Heubert Toews Gerig, who escaped in their midst. It employs daily journals, secreted out of Russia, and Lise's words about her spellbinding childhood. Lise's father, Nikolai, urges his pregnant wife to flee Russia -- that he will find her. 170 people of Tchongraw refuse to leave anyone behind and march through Ukraine singing forbidden hymns.
"Before we fall into Russian hands, I'm going to kill you all and myself too," she told us." - Lise.
Events are detailed as they affect individual members of Lise's people, whose personalities, and the cultures that surrounded them, bring home the reality of what they overcame. Johann is a mystery, Nick Enns walks out of Siberia, young Mary realizes the war is too close as she clings to a train car, Justina defies Stalin's officers. Heroic Elizabeth Koop Heubert empowers her people and places herself in peril to get her children out of Russia. "Before we fall into Russian hands, I'm going to kill you all and myself too," she told Lise and her other children. Lise tells us, "Love is all we have, Walter and I. We found each other again in time to say good-bye."
Today, Lise is a photographer of note in Canada. Her story enriches the literature of these Mennonite people. Publication of this book waited for the freedom of a cousin who was granted asylum in 1998.
Excerpts
"I can't come here again," he whispered in a broken voice. Outside a fierce, unrelenting wind blew from the north driving snow and ice against the windows. Elizabeth watched her pain-wracked Papa turn a tiny brass knob on the kerosene lamp with his useless, bruised and smashed fingers until the wick went out. Only one candle flickered. Their kitchen plunged into darkness and slowly, very slowly, her papa opened the door to the side yard and stood listening. ---

"A judge plays ring around the file cabinet while prodding a deputy public defender in the buttocks with a sex toy during a morning conference in the judge's chambers.
A well-known attorney stops by the judge's chambers to have 30 traffic tickets "taken care of," then takes the judge to lunch. Another celebrity attorney claims a judge he represents has done nothing wrong by "fixing" over a hundred of the judge's son's tickets. Both attorneys represented O.J. Simpson in his murder trial.
A judge walks down the hallway of the courthouse, comes up behind a court commissioner, and reaches between his legs to squeeze his genitals until the court commissioner nearly passes out from the pain.
Is this a joke? A new reality show? No, for this court clerk, it's just business as usual.

"Imagine yourself in a crowded store, and gracefully strolling along every isle looking at all the pretty things you could buy.
Maybe you are in a park with your children. As your children play, and are happily entertaining themselves, you are taking in the sweet smell of the Fall breeze, as you admire all the beautiful trees that are turning colors of red, yellow, and orange.
It could be; that you are taking a Sunday drive, the day is absolutely perfect with the sun shining bright. The sky's so clear that it's beauty captures your soul, and brings a smile to your face.
It could be any number of circumstances you are in when suddenly, absolute terror strikes within. Your heart is racing so hard and fast you can hear it beating in your head, and you can't catch your breath. You start tingling in your hands, arms or face. A disorented feeling takes over, and you are in a state of panic.
You have no reason to panic, you're just going on about your business and all of a sudden this feeling takes over, and you can't control what it's doing to you.
This is a panic attack.
Many people suffer from this disorder, some worse than others.
This book is a true story about the Author, and how for fifteen years she suffered, living with panic and anxiety to the extent that it literally took over her life. She couldn't go anywhere without having a panic attack, she couldn't drive, and at one point in her life, she couldn't even go out of her own home for fear of having yet another dramatic episode.
She really didn't have a life at all, and one day she decided, it was her life... or her life!
As you read her story, written with gripping emotion, you may find yourself crying, laughing, and then cheering as she takes you through the process she took to regain control of her very being.
Anyone who suffers from this disorder would love this book. It was wrote to help others who are suffering. It's also very informational on a personal level, for people who wants to know how someone really feels when they are tormented with constant fear. Many people think we are "crazy" or "Mental". We are neither of these things. This is a real illness, with real feelings, and real symptoms.

"John Steinbeck’s closest friend was Edward Ricketts, a biologist who lived in Monterey, California. As Professor Astro makes clear; no analysis of Steinbeck’s writing can proceed without a study of the life and ideas of Ricketts, who was Steinbeck’s personal and intellectual companion for 18 years.
As Astro points out, Ricketts was the source of characters in six of Steinbeck’s novels and one short story. (Doc of Cannery Row, Preacher Casy in Grapes of Wrath, etc.) Perhaps more importantly, Astro shows many of Steinbeck’s thematic tenets were provided by Ricketts’ views and philosophies. To understand Steinbeck, one must understand Ricketts.

Loving Mr. Lincoln: The Personal Diaries of Mary Todd Lincoln by M. Kay duPont. 2137 Mt. Vernon Rd, Atlanta GA 30338. Kay@YourWritingPartner.net. www.lovingmrlincoln.com
"Loving Mr. Lincoln—presented in Mary Lincoln’s “own words”—chronicles her life, love, and daily struggles with Abraham from the day they meet until the day he dies. In frank, haunting journal entries, Mary describes the pain she felt when Abraham left her at the altar, when her sons died, and when Abraham’s political career seemed to be at an end. She also writes from her heart about the tragic years of slavery and the Civil War. This is the Lincoln family as you’ve never seen them—up close and personal. They will captivate your attention and your heart! Based on meticulous research, so that every historical fact is accurate, the author beautifully unveils one of the strongest, yet most tragic, relationships in history. The personal life of Abraham and Mary Lincoln has never been revealed with such depth, clarity, and detail. This is historical fiction at its finest.
Nominated for GA Writers Assn's First Novel Award and Lincoln Group of NY 's Outstanding Achievement Award.

"Growing up in Prussia (East Germany) was a wonderful experience for a young boy born into a Prussian diplomats family. That all changed when World War II began and at the age of fourteen, Gerd Brandt was swept up into a Russian POW camp and barely stayed alive working as a camp medic. This story shows a glimpse of the other side of the war - from the eyes of a little boy taken as a War Criminal, his fight to survive, his life as a German Polizei after his return and eventual immigration to a life in Canada.

This paperback, ISBN: 075968-060-4, of 456 pages was released in March 2002.
Venera Di Bella Barles was born during the depression in upstate New York to Italian immigrant parents. She encounters a difficult pathway from the hot-blooded upbringing with her authoritarian father, who had one foot in Italy and one in America. The childhood tribulations chewed directly into her spirit. The residue was overpowering. Marriage, Kidneys, and Other Dark Organs reveals, with sadness and wit, her tricky path to maturity.
Venera spent long years in search of answers to her fears, using humor to cover difficult circumstances; years to take responsibility for her own life; years to allay the anger in having to forfeit her childhood as the family referee; years before she understood her parents and replaced bitterness with forgiveness; years to find the love in all this disorder; years to recognize that the legacy that made her a peacemaker was not always a benefit. Peace at any price."

Memoirs from Normandy Childhood, War a by Armand Idrac. PO Box 2183, Southeastern, PA 19399-2183. BEACHLLOYD@erols.com. www.BEACHLLOYD.com
"As a former French teacher, I translated my good friend's French memoirs, and then we published them in the original language, as well. Dan Poynter's book was my bible in publishing this book and in forming Beach Lloyd Publishers, LLC. Our niche is World War II first-person memoirs and Holocaust survivors' accounts. The "Memoirs," the lightest of the titles to date, are humorous and engaging, consisting of chapters that can be read independently, begin with Armand's early childhood, schooling, the Occupation and Landing told from the point of view of the 14-year-old that the author was at the time--living in Caen, Normandy very close to the beaches. Refugee life and enduring the hardships of the Liberation move into hilarious anecdotes on his career with the French railroad. Service as Overseas Representative of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul, travels to the French West Indies, climbing every volcano in Italy, and three essays written during his youth, all furnish a wealth of amusing and touching stories.
Armand hosted exchange students for years, and concludes with a special chapter on his love of the United States and gratitude to Americans for their sacrifices during World War II."

"Michael Kennon is the President and CEO of Kennon Transport, LLC, a very successful trucking company he runs with his wife of 12 years, Sue. Before owning his own company, Mike was a runaway and was virtually homeless for most of his childhood and young adulthood. To survive on the road, Mike did everything from driving tractor-trailers, sold encyclopedias door to door, hustled pool, was a baker, ski instructor, sous chef, drug dealer and many other positions of many natures. Drugs and other dependencies took over Mike's life to the point that he could not accept help when it was offered, nor could he stop running away from a past that haunted him. While now blessed with what he has achieved in his life and in his personal, family and business relationships, things were much different at one time. "Memoirs of a Runaway: A Story of Hope" is atale of survival and spirituality. Isolation and reconnection. Most of all, it is a hand reaching out to those who travel down the same troubled path; a story of hope."

Miracles in Action by Angela Alexander. www.miraclesinaction.com
"April 1,2000 while Angela was in Japan on military duty her family in California was involved in a fatal car crash. Their car fell twenty-five feet off the highway landing upside down on top of two other parked vehicles with people inside. Angela's two eight-year-old sons died instantly at the scene. Angela's book is entitled 'Miracles in Action' because even though her sons died instantly they both wrote and left behind incredible good-bye letters. Angela said, "Each letter answered specific questions that I would have wondered about for the rest of my life." This book will have you laughing and crying at the same time, and you will know that love never dies."

My Border Patrol Days/Patrol Cars, Planes, and Pistols by Joseph C. White. 3018 Patrick Place Circle, Clover, SC 29710. josephcwhite@comporium.net. http://www.josephcwhite.com
" High quality paperback. Three hundred twenty pages with pictures.
"Joe White is one of those natively competent people who always manage to be successful in any endeavor. He became interested in competitive pistol shooting, so he became a national champion. Interested in flying, he went to a top spot in the Border Patrol air operation. Immigration matters? Joe served as a District Director, a top field position, and as Assistant Regional Commissioner for Investigations for the Southeastern U.S. And, as he served with distinction in all of these varied positions, he also proved to be a keen observer; of the job, and of the people he worked with, the people he supervised, and the people who supervised him. Not surprisingly, he has proved to be a successful writer.
He descries the positions and the people as though he were explaining to an old acquaintance what he had done for a living. The result is an insight into a more or less normal bureaucracy. He is easy to read, often humorous, and sometimes ribald. For a survivor of the same bureaucracy, it is a gold mine of memories, some good, some not so good, but all a huge pleasure to recall."

"Product Description
Described from a generation before to current, this author has scratched out a story from pain into a work of art. An artist in both paint and words, this true story captures the essence of a tragic life and the beauty that lies beneath the surface. His words paint a picture of a hardship and a suffering that only few could imagine. This emotional story is an abstraction of language that parallels a life that just will not give up. Norma Jean's Sun is a story about differences and the tragedies that life presents a person who is visibly different from the rest.

"One: Memoir of a Manic Addict brings readers along with the author on a wild ride through the fun house mirror to experience the blissful horror of drugs, the odd beauty of insanity, a huge sad impossible love, the brutal truth of growing up, of pain and loss and finding the strength to make sense of the senseless and the faith to go on with the burden of living. This true story reflects upon the party life and the hip New York City drug scene, the distorted views and insane directions launched by an undiagnosed bipolar condition kept afloat with drugs, alcohol, food binges, sex, overspending, and an inability to touch land. The author grabs hold of her own life and comes to terms with who she really is when all the craziness is stripped away: she is every woman, just like the readers, just like you, a vulnerable human who got lost in darkness along the way and, by the grace of God, stumbled back into the light."

Passion v. Arrogance: A Dana & Goliath Story of Wine, Women and Wrong! by Margaret E.J. Boderick. PO Box 127. passionbooks@aol.com. passionpowerpress.com
"Broderick recounts a compelling story of a small Midwestern, women owned winery, their impressive start to international growth, the difficult business decision to close and the results from the business world. The story captures the excitement, commitment and the dream that all entrepreneurs possess when they start.
The tale continues as relationships and economic times change. Eventually, the owners uncover how the governments involvement with their financial institutions operation causes a rippling effect of disastrous actions. Once the owners and management enter into the legal system to protect what they created, one improbable event after another leads to the dismantling of the entrepreneurs lifes dream.
The author lives the story, and candidly discusses the mistakes, struggles and ultimate belief in the leadership, management and vision that allowed them to continue the battle.
Learn from this emotional, two year struggle of winery versus bank, woman versus man, right versus wrong and passion versus arrogance.
What people are saying about
Passion v. Arrogance:
Broderick has written a compelling tale of days of wine and bankers. For a first class read about how banking issues turned her small business American dream into an American Nightmare, read this bookbefore you borrow money.

Shadowdad: When is Life Not Worth Living? by Richard Watrous. Studio 4 Productions, P.O. Box 280400, Northridge, CA 91328. studio4prod@aol.com. www.studio4productions.com
"Shadowdad is a true story of a son's quest for understanding, a loving tribute to his father, and a chronicle of the bad end to a good life.
Hit by successive strokes, Holly Watrous is robbed of both his dignity and his abilities. He reacts by becoming abusive toward those he loves and who love him.
His condition worsens, but he does not die. Instead, he lingers on in continual pain and perpetual despondency. His doctors take extraordinary measures to keep him alive, despite his living will’s instructions to the contrary.
All the doctors except one. Behind closed doors and in hushed tones, a doctor offers a possible solution––a solution considered immoral by many, and illegal according to the law. Family hearts are torn as they try to balance what Holly wants with what they are capable of doing in the name of mercy.
In the epilogue, Watrous delves into the issue of assisted suicide. His thoughts, born of firsthand experience, will prove to be of immense value to many readers.
Shadowdad is a book that deserves to be read, discussed...and debated."

Tales of a Country Cop in Africa by Michael Jaquish. amazon.com. starborn1@yahoo.com. www.countrycopbooks.com

If you have ever wondered what it would be like to be a police officer in rural America or struggled to comprehend why the continent of Africa always seems to be in the midst of violent revolution, corruption and poverty, this book will fill those gaps in your experience. The author traveled to Liberia, West Africa after his police career ended to run US Embassy security operations and quickly found himself engulfed in a bloody civil war that exposed him to horrors that the average person may find totally incomprehensible. Nothing in his previous career had prepared him for what he experienced and his survival required every ounce of creativity and adaptability he could summon."

The Counterfeit Millionaire by Wayne Victor Dennis. 2120 Ramrod Ave #915 Henderson / Las Vegas, Nevada 89014. waynevdennis@msn.com. www.counterfeitmillionaire.com
"Indulge yourself in the greatest scheme of counterfeiting ever told. This is a true-crime adventure of incredible proportion and intrigue; a federal case that dwarfs the bank accounts of many a millionaire.
Like “Bugsy Siegel” reincarnated, Wayne Victor Dennis has lead a life of criminal enterprise that can only be described as daring and ingenious. Throughout the years this gentleman gangster has baffled some of law enforcement’s best.
You’ll live the experience of what it’s like to photograph money, create printing plates, and counterfeit millions of dollars while shuffling through the secret pressroom hidden deep inside his tightly-secured Miami home. He’ll take you there without risking arrest.
Printing $15,000,000 is a difficult task. However, cutting, counting, aging and safely concealing more than a ton of cash can only be done in clever ways. Enjoy the moments of chaos and comedy. Experience the “thrill factor” as it soars to stratospheric heights.
Witness the destruction of millions in counterfeit he considers imperfect. Laugh while grieving as bags of cash are incinerated in multiple firestorms that explode out of control. Feel the panic as semi-burned twenty-dollar bills rain down upon the neighborhood.
Walk with them through the bustling casinos of Las Vegas. Feel the intoxication as this extraordinary counterfeit passes hands and fools even the most experienced money handlers.
You’ll have front seat in the monstrosity of a courtroom that’s filled with lies, truth, shocking wit, and an aftermath of damning revenge. Careers are destroyed, futures vanish and loved ones part. This judge shows no mercy.
Within a boundless sea of shining razor wire at the maximum-security federal prison, he’s forced to live amongst arms dealers, arsonists, bank robbers, drug lords, embezzlers, smugglers, yacht thieves, and many other criminally minded at “Club Fed.”

"Forty Years ago, before Barack H. Obama, there was Howard N. Lee, who made history on May 6, 1969, when he was elected the first black Mayor of a majority white town in the South, Chapel Hill, North Carolina. He,also, became the first black member of a southern governor's cabinet, appointed by Jim Hunt in 1977, later serving 13 years in the North Carlina Senate, representing a predominantly white district. In 2003 he was elected Chairman of the North Carolina State Board of Education, becoming the first black person to hold that position. Growing up in the oppressive and segregated South, he struggled to survive and to remain hopeful that life would someday be better. Life has been great for Howard Lee who has released his memoir, The Courage to Lead; One Man's Journey in Public Service. In this book Lee describes,in vivid detail, his journey through the valley of pitfalls and death on his travel to the mountain top and becoming one of the most influential leaders in North Carolina and the South. The reader will find this book depressing and uplifting as well as sad and inspirational, while recognizing the strength that can be generated through optimism and determination. "

The Four Seasons of Home by Austin Morley/Linda Morley. morley123@aol.com.
"The Four Seasons of Home is a series of vignettes in praise of both the beauty and the lessons of the changing seasons, but behind it is a richer story of family healing and the discovery of an unknown 82-year old poet.
The vignettes -- gentle, poetic, sometimes funny observations -- are culled from letters my dad had written over a 20-year period, unaware that he was a gifted writer, and unaware that I was saving them.
Following Dan Poynter's guidelines, and with the help of a gifted artist in LA, I produced a book that not only touches people's hearts, but is also a beautiful object. We printed only a few hundred copies at first, because I didn't know if my Dad would want to expand the book's reach beyond family and friends. I'm happy to say that he did! He has been reading and signing it at Barnes & Noble and Borders Books, as well as at schools and libraries around upstate NY, where he lives. People have been buying two or three at a time, because it makes such a beautiful gift.
And here¹s the best part: At a time when the infirmities of age are preventing him from enjoying the active life he used to lead, the book has given him a whole new identity as local auteur and ³man of letters."

The King & Mrs. Simpson: The True Story of the Commoner Who Captured the Heart of a King by Erin Frances Schulz. W.S. Beetle & Co., 732 County Street, New Bedford, MA 02740. Info@wsbeetle.com. www.thekingandmrssimpson.com
"In December of 1936, King Edward VIII of Great Britain shocked the world by giving up his kingdom in order to marry a twice-divorced American commoner named Wallis Simpson. "The King and Mrs. Simpson" recounts the extraordinary love story between the popular King and the enigmatic woman that began at a party in England and culminated with the downfall of his reign nearly six years later.
"The King and Mrs. Simpson" is a narrative history that utilizes flashbacks, short passages and dialogue from their memoirs. With only 142 pages, "The King and Mrs. Simpson" reads like a story and is sized like a novella, but still captures the historical detail that makes their story one of legend.

Throughout All Time, A Cosmic Love Story by Ann Ulrich Miller. 216 Sundown Circle, Pagosa Springs CO 81147. starbeacon@gmail.com. www.earthstarpublications.com/cosmiclove.html
"She was married to her high school sweetheart, the mother of three sons... the youngest still in diapers. She had long given up the search for her soul mate. He was alone and retired, just hoping for peace and solitude in whatever time he had left. He hadn't come to Colorado looking for a girlfriend. He had planned to pull out with this travel trailer the next day, but a freak Labor Day snowstorm blanketed McClure Pass Campground, causing him to delay his trip east a day or two longer... He didn't realize that a black-and-white photo in newsprint would prompt him to travel 2,000 miles to meet her. She had no idea the part it would play in the cosmic plan that would alter the course of her life. Ann Ulrich Miller's very personal account of how she discovered her soul mate and sacrificed her marriage, her kids and her security in order to grow spiritually and spend the next 18 years of her life with her Divine Counterpart and best friend throughout all time."

West Virginia Tough Boys: Vote Buying, Fist Fighting And A President Named JFK by F. Keith Davis. Woodland Press, 118 Woodland Drive, Chapmanville, WV 25508. kdavis@woodlandpress.com. www.woodlandpress.com
"In November 2003, as the nation commemorates the 40th anniversary of the death of John F. Kennedy, Woodland Press, LLC, of Chapmanville, WV, announced the availability of a new book about the link between JFK’s successful bid for the presidency and the raw and raucous country politics of Appalachia.
“Look at the people below us. You know I can help these people, Raymond.”
These were the hypnotic words of the charismatic presidential candidate as he stood next to Logan County’s Democrat Executive Committee Chairman Raymond Chafin, as the two gazed out the finger-smudged second-floor window of the Aracoma Hotel in downtown Logan.
These syllables resonated in Chafin’s thoughts as he fretfully contemplated the future of the 1960 campaign for his group of candidates. After all, Chafin had been the head of the local Hubert Humphrey for President campaign all along; yet, now he found himself privately negotiating with the opposition — the charming John F. Kennedy.
Now, after more than forty years, Logan County, West Virginia political kingpins from yesteryear — Claude Ellis, Raymond Chafin, Dan Dahill — have chosen to break their silence about the "real" goings-on during that time period in the pages of a new book, "West Virginia Tough Boys: Vote Buying, Fist Fighting And A President Named JFK," authored by F. Keith Davis.
This is the third publication produced by Woodland Press, LLC. Other 2003 titles include: “The Tale of the Devil: The Biography of Devil Anse Hatfield,” by Coleman C. Hatfield and Robert Spence; and “Living the Good Life,” by Dr. Charles M. Wood, II.
"Woodland Press books are distributed by BookWorld and Ingram. Since beginning in July 2002, we have been extremely blessed. We would like to thank Dan Poynter for his sound advice. His books and online helps on self-publishing are simply fantastic. We are living proof, he knows what he's talking about." -- Keith Davis "

"An autobiography of a life that started way back when "fast food" was indeed a rabbit. A story of tragedy, triumph and much good humor. A story of a man who worked steady for fifty years but never held a steady job. A hillbilly who worked as a logger in the giant redwoods and worked on the Alaska Pipeline. An "Old Geezer" yarn of much good humor and wisdom learned from a lifetime of rich experience. "

Whose Child?:An Adoptee's Healing Journey from Relinquishment through Reunion and Beyond by Kasey Hamner. Triad Publishing,PO Box 299, Verdugo City, CA 91046-0299. triadpublishing@earthlink.net. http://home.earthlink.net/~triadpublishing
"“A winner in the arena of adoption literature! Kasey Hamner, adoptee and author of Whose Child? describes herself as a “run-of-the-mill, garden variety adoptee,” but her book is anything but run-of-the-mill. It is a frank, open account of her difficulties with relationships, self-esteem, and substances, and how her reunion with her birth family helped heal her wounds. It is well written and poignant in its honest story, which will help other adoptees, birth parents and adoptive parents understand the complexities of the issues associated with adoption and the importance of reunion in the lives of adoptees. Finally, adoptees are writing their own stories!”

Winning Against The Odds A Look At The Ron Paul Story by Joan Reinbold. http://www.lulu.com/content/2761104. J.B.Reinbold@gmail.com. http://www.lulu.com/content/2761104
"did extensive research. The more I found the more I was fascinated by how this one individual worked within government and as a doctor. And as far as talking to people, they had the same response as me, “Dr. who?” …information on a doctor who had been in the United States House of Representative off and on since the 1970’s and then steadily for the last ten. He represents the coastal area of Texas. His co-workers in Congress call him ‘Dr. No’ but not as a bad name. The Republicans, his official party, don’t seem to agree with him. Despite this, Dr. Paul is considered consistent, principled, and a man of great integrity. Here was a mystery person who is a public figure. But why didn’t people want to hear what he has to say? Yet those who do know something of his policies say that he has workable solutions… …solutions for the country’s problems may be just what the ‘doctor ordered’

You, Me and Morrissey by Nasseri & Starr. info@subculturebooks.com. http://www.subculturebooks.com
"You, Me and Morrissey is a collection of autobiographical short stories capturing snapshots of love, loss, bigotry, violence, artistic birth, and mental illness. Each story is set to the soundtrack of a Smiths or Morrissey title or lyric, and documents the trials of youth and adulthood, and how the music and the ever-present specter of Morrissey influenced and altered the paths of the authors forever. From 1980's humdrum Texas towns, to a San Francisco meeting with Morrissey himself, the stories revolve around the ups and downs of balancing an art-driven life with the insanities of day to day living in the "real world."
